INTRO
The Flamingo Visitor Center in the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve aims to offer visitors an up-close experience of the wildlife, while providing panoramic views of the natural landscape. Visitors can choose their prefered way to experience the reserve, whether it be from the rooftop observation deck, or peering through the windows at the surrounding vista.
This proposal aims to integrate the wildlife found on the reserve with the visitor center. This is achieved through an animal rehabilitation initiative within the center. Visitors can view the animals inside the large courtyard located in the middle of the building.
DESIGN OBJECTIVES

Circulation paths are carefully choreographed to provide moments of proximity and distance, reinforcing an understanding of habitat, behavior, and conservation processes.
MATERIALITY
The building materials have been selected to ensure that the construction process is both affordable and sustainable, while integrating locally sourced components. Palm leaves are woven together to create the sun shading louvers, while bird-friendly glass ensures the safety of the variety of bird species found on the reserve.
THE OUTCOME
The project results in a visitor center that balances public engagement with ecological sensitivity. By embedding viewing experiences within a controlled architectural framework and integrating rehabilitation functions into the central courtyard, the building fosters a direct yet respectful relationship between visitors and wildlife.
